Fendt Vario: Popular tractor model will soon no longer be produced

"A legend says Servus and Goodbye," Fendt announces at Easter. One of the most popular tractor series of all time is soon ending.

"A legend says Servus and Goodbye," Fendt writes to his fans in a newsletter for Easter. The manufacturer announces in a few lines the end of production of one of the most popular tractor series ever. Now it's time: Fendt is discontinuing the 700 Vario Gen6 series. The Allgäu tractor manufacturer announced this in an Easter newsletter. "Legends leave traces," the message says. The Fendt 700 Gen6 was a perfectionist and all-rounder who set new standards. The manufacturer is not wrong about that. Especially the Fendt 724 Vario Gen6 was an outstanding success in Germany. The largest model in the 700 Gen6 series was not only the top seller at Fendt in terms of quantity, but also the most popular tractor among farmers every year. The Fendt 700 Vario Gen6 Series Generation 6 of the Fendt 700 Vario was built from 2020 and consists of six models: the 714 Vario with 144 hp, 716 with 163 hp, 718 with 181 hp, 720 with 201 hp, 722 with 223 hp, and 724 Vario with 237 hp. All models are equipped with a 6.06-liter 6-cylinder engine from AGCO Power and a continuously variable Vario transmission. The series reaches a top speed of up to 50 km/h. With the introduction of the FendtONE operating concept, operation was expanded for the first time with a digital dashboard and touchscreen. In addition, the Gen6 offers a hydraulic power of up to 193 l/min and high versatility in use. Fendt 724 Vario Gen6 as the nation's favorite The Fendt 724 Vario Gen6 was the most popular model in the series. It repeatedly led the list of new tractor registrations. Since its introduction in 2020, the 724 Vario Gen6 has topped the list of best-selling tractor models in Germany in the years 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. In 2024, it was finally succeeded by the Fendt 728 Vario Gen7. Introduction of the Fendt 700 Vario Gen7 The Fendt 700 Vario Gen7 was introduced in 2022 and represents a complete redesign within the series. It includes five models with a maximum power of 203 hp in the 720 Vario, 223 hp in the 722, 243 hp in the 724, 262 hp in the 726, and up to 283 hp in the 728 Vario. The latter reaches up to 305 hp with DynamicPerformance, a demand-driven additional power. Instead of the previous 6.06-liter engine, the Gen7 now uses a 7.5-liter 6-cylinder engine from AGCO Power. This operates at a reduced rated speed of 1,700 rpm, which reduces fuel consumption and increases efficiency. The overall concept of the series has also been revised: chassis, cabin, cooling system, and hydraulic components have been redesigned to enable higher performance while maintaining compactness. What will happen to the "small" Fendt 700s? Not all models of the Gen6 were transferred to the Gen7. The three smaller versions - 714, 716, and 718 - were and are only available in the Gen6. Will the "small" 700s now disappear? It certainly looks that way. Fendt has not shown any signs of transferring the three models to the Gen7 so far. Currently, Fendt only offers the models 718 and above in its machine configurator. It is likely that the tractor manufacturer wants to redirect potential customers in this power class to the four-cylinder Fendt 600. The 600 series, introduced at Agritechnica 2023, includes four models: 614 Vario, 616 Vario, 618 Vario, and 620 Vario. They cover a range of 149 to 209 hp and overlap with the existing 700 Gen6 models. When will production of the Gen6 be discontinued? It is not yet known when production of the Fendt 700 Gen6 will end. When asked by agrarheute, it was said from Marktoberdorf that the Fendt 700 Vario Gen6 will "still be around for quite a while," and production will probably not end until early 2026. Fans of the series still have the opportunity to secure one of the last models - likely at attractive conditions like a clearance sale.
