Fiat could bring back a true legend - the all-wheel-drive Panda. The Italian manufacturer recently hinted at this possibility with the unveiling of a study for the raised Grande Panda.
Fiat stated that with the concept vehicle Grande Panda 4x4, they are reviving an iconic vehicle model from the 1980s. The showcased vision combines innovations and current requirements with the characteristics of the historical Fiat Panda 4x4.
The first Panda 4x4 hit the market in 1983 and even then impressed with its unique combination of functionality and innovation. Packed in a compact form, the Fiat Panda 4x4 offered a clever interior combined with remarkable off-road capabilities. Farmers and hunters still appreciate its performance in mud and rough terrain today - as it is significantly lighter than modern SUVs and off-road vehicles.
Electric All-Wheel Drive
In the concept study Grande Panda 4x4, Fiat opts for electric all-wheel drive. The combustion engine conventionally and mechanically drives the front axle, while an electric motor sits on the rear axle. Additional off-road components, such as extra lights on the roof rack, are also included.
Whether the car will make a comeback on the market, the manufacturer neither confirms nor denies. They refer to it as the "potentially future all-wheel-drive model of Fiat." The aim is to adapt to the changing needs in mobility without losing sight of the authentic and beloved essence of the Panda model, as quoted by motor1 from the marketing department.
