Introduction

Nearly ten years ago, Krone presented its Premos 5000, a mobile pellet press. It has been optimized multiple times and is now also of interest to livestock owners looking for compact bedding.

History of Premos 5000

It has been almost a decade since Krone introduced the Premos 5000 as the world's first mobile pellet press at Agritechnica 2015.

The Concept

The idea of producing structure pellets directly from straw-like materials in the field or in stationary operations earned a Gold Medal from the German Agricultural Society (DLG) due to its versatility in usage.

Technical Modifications for Efficiency and Comfort

Over the years, the pellet press has been continuously modified to improve efficiency. Krone introduced a machine with larger press rollers and a new main gearbox, increasing throughput from 3 to 5 t/h.

Benefits for Animal Welfare

Initially designed for energy and agricultural purposes, structure pellets have become popular in animal husbandry due to their absorbency, hygienic properties, and ease of use as an alternative to straw bedding.

Power from the Fermenter

The potential energetic use of structure pellets as a co-substrate in biogas plants is also intriguing. The pelletizing process makes the energy in straw more quickly available for methane-producing bacteria, increasing gas yield by up to 40% compared to untreated straw.
