The New Subaru Outback 2026

The new Subaru Outback will debut in the United States this year. It has become more angular and upright, featuring a range of modern technologies.

Exterior Design

The new Outback has a "bolder new design" according to the manufacturer. The front end features a wide, rectangular grille flanked by stacked headlights. The sloping roofline at the back has disappeared, replaced by a steeper rear window, a detachable rear bumper for easier trailer hitch installation, and a new light signature. The new Outback stands taller overall with larger windows.

The standard roof rail can support up to 363 kg statically and 100 kg dynamically, with an additional 100 kg load capacity on the sides for items like a hammock.

Interior Features

Inside, there is a 12.1-inch horizontal screen mounted higher on the dashboard, accompanied by a digital 12.3-inch display behind the steering wheel. The touchscreen is powered by a more capable processor compared to the previous model, allowing for custom settings.

Higher-end models feature a two-tone dashboard and climate control buttons and dials below the display.

The rear of the vehicle offers a cargo space of 980 liters, 57 liters more than the previous model, thanks to the increased roof height. The seats are directly attached to the chassis, and the reduced vehicle sway contributes to long-distance comfort.

Engine and Performance

The Subaru is equipped with a 2.5-liter boxer-four engine delivering 182 hp and 241 Nm of torque. A more powerful version with a 2.4-liter turbo boxer engine is expected in the US, producing 260 hp and over 376 Nm.

The power is transmitted to all four wheels through a CVT transmission with simulated gear shifts. The updated symmetrical all-wheel-drive system offers faster middle differential locking for improved traction in challenging terrain.

The new Outback maintains a ground clearance of 22 cm and comes with 19-inch wheels as standard.

Advanced Safety Features

The latest EyeSight driver assistance system is included in the Outback with features such as front collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, emergency braking, front cross-traffic alert, and protection against pedal misoperation.

Additional safety features include an emergency stop system that can change lanes, activate hazard lights, unlock doors, and alert emergency services if the driver is unresponsive.

Compatibility with Apple and Android devices remains standard for entertainment and navigation.

Pricing and Availability

Pricing for the 2026 Outback will be announced shortly before its launch in the US. It will be available in various trim levels: Premium, Limited, Touring, Limited XT, Touring XT, and Wilderness. The European release is expected in 2026, likely priced above €50,000.
