Amazone has developed the InsectGuard insect deterrent device to promote sustainable and insect-friendly mowing technology.
The device, easily mountable on the self-propelled mower Profihopper in front of the front mower, works mechanically to drive insects away from the danger zone before the actual mowing process.
Scientifically confirmed
In a scientific master's thesis by Elias Windmüller at the Institute of Agricultural Engineering at the University of Hohenheim, the effectiveness of the innovation was examined. The results confirm the technology's effectiveness: significantly more insects were protected during mowing with the use of the InsectGuard.
The experimental setup
For the evaluation experiments, a catch frame was installed over the mower. The experiments showed that using the insect deterrent device during mowing led to a significantly higher number of insects being caught in the catch frame.
Depending on the experimental area, up to 46% more insects were driven away. This increased number of insects was captured above the InsectGuard, demonstrating the positive effect for flying insects.
The results of the master's thesis confirm that Amazone has developed a practical and effective solution for insect protection in the municipal sector, contributing to biodiversity conservation.
