On the youtube.com channel of WDR Lokalzeit LandSchafft! from Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), a video shows how a farmer came up with a brilliant idea. In the 1990s, he invented a clever children's toy - made from corn! This creative farmer from Dorsten in Münsterland, North Rhine-Westphalia, had great success. "PlayMais" made its way into countless children's rooms in Germany - and worldwide. Behind this idea is farmer Hubert Loick. 30 years ago, he had a brilliant idea. He started producing packaging materials from his corn, as explained by WDR. This play carpet shows his own farm.
But it quickly evolved from there. He began making children's toys from the yellow kernels. It was particularly important to him that everything came from his own cultivation - and is biodegradable. The farmer turned into a successful entrepreneur with over 150 employees. He also diversified by establishing multiple sources of income, including biogas plants. Hubert shares how he achieved this with WDR Lokalzeit LandSchafft!
