The Danish insect producer, "Enorm Biofactory," has initiated a restructuring process. The company, specializing in the production of Black Soldier Fly larvae, informed the media about this decision. The move was justified by a lack of demand. According to Enorm Biofactory's CEO, Carsten Lind Pedersen, market reluctance has made it difficult to generate sufficient revenue and secure financing. However, the goal is to continue operating the facility, possibly in a new structure or with new partners.
Enorm Biofactory claims to have built the largest insect factory in Scandinavia in the Central Jutland region, producing insect protein in the form of meal and oil. The involvement of the Danish DLG Group, one of Europe's largest agricultural trading companies, had attracted attention. The production plant was opened at the end of 2023 and, according to Enorm Biofactory, can produce 100 tons of larvae per day, equivalent to around 11,000 tons of insect protein per year at full capacity. It can be used as protein in animal feed, partially replacing soy.
The insect factory had already made negative headlines in the past. According to various media reports, complaints from neighbors about odor nuisance had increased in recent months, prompting the Danish environmental protection agency to intervene. At one point, a regulatory production stop was even considered.
