In the USA, approximately 12,000 chickens were shipped by mail and then forgotten in a delivery van. Thousands of chicks died without food and water.

According to the Washington Post, around 12,000 chickens were shipped by mail in the USA and then forgotten for three days in a delivery van, without food or water. Thousands of chicks died before being discovered. The reason for this incident is still completely unclear. The animals were found in early May in a hot truck at a postal distribution center in Delaware in the eastern USA. The United States Postal Service stated that they are actively investigating the incident to determine how this fatal mistake occurred.

The poultry was shipped from a hatchery based in Pennsylvania, which regularly sends animals to customers across the country. However, the company can no longer take back the surviving chicks due to biosecurity concerns. Among the birds were young turkeys, geese, and quails, as reported by CNN.

Therefore, the animals have been nurtured and cared for in animal care centers for more than two weeks. There have been numerous inquiries about whether the chickens could be sold as meat, but the animal rescuers strictly reject this possibility. The Delaware Department of Agriculture directed the chicks to the animal shelter. The state is now responsible for supporting the center with funds - at a rate of $5 per day per chicken, as explained by CNN.
