Megafarm: Oliyar plant construction of a barn for 2.3 million laying hens.

The Ukrainian company Oliyar is sending a challenge to the European egg industry: a gigantic laying hen farm for 2.3 million birds is set to be built in Lviv. They will produce 1.6 million eggs per day!

Oliyar, one of the leading Ukrainian manufacturers of oil and fat products, is making a statement by planning a massive laying hen farm with 2.3 million animals in the Lviv region in western Ukraine. The facility is expected to include 20 barns and will be located in the Shchyretskaya area, approximately 80 km from the Polish border. The company anticipates a daily production of 1.6 million eggs. All aspects of the operation, from feeding to sorting, are planned to be automated. This project is considered strategically significant, with analysts suggesting that it could lead to a significant shift in market conditions in Eastern Europe. According to forecasts from the Kyiv School of Economics, Ukrainian egg production is projected to increase by 31% to 855,000 tons by 2033. Oliyar is currently one of the largest processors of sunflower, rapeseed, and soybeans, with a global export market. Poland Feeling Competitive Pressure In Poland, one of the leading EU egg exporters, industry representatives are viewing this project critically as expected. The country produces around 11 billion eggs annually, with 40% of them destined for export, mainly to Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and France. If Oliyar follows through with its announced plans, Eastern Europe could face a redistribution of market shares in the egg sector. This could also have implications for the German market, such as changes in pricing or new export flows.
