The renovation of the truck production in Munich is completed. Now, both diesel and electric trucks can be produced on the same production line. This year, 1,000 trucks are planned to be built.
MAN has completed the conversion of the truck production in Munich. Now, both diesel and electric trucks can be produced on the same production line. This year, 1,000 trucks are planned to be built.
After a century of diesel trucks, MAN is embarking on the future with the serial production of electric trucks at the Munich location. Following the production of electric buses, the transition from diesel to electric drive is now entering an active phase for trucks as well.
MAN has invested nearly €400 million in predominantly Bavarian locations to accelerate the transition to electromobility in the commercial vehicle sector. The MAN Munich plant is a pioneer in the flexible production of electric and diesel trucks on the same production line. Electric buses have been produced at the MAN Starachowice site in Poland since October 2021.
The truck range spans from 12 to 50 tons total weight. The current maximum production capacity is around 100 trucks per day – regardless of the drive type. It takes approximately eight hours to manufacture a truck.
MAN's goal for 2025 is to deliver the first 1,000 electric trucks.
Prior to the start of serial production, MAN has manufactured and delivered nearly 200 electric pre-production vehicles to customers. These vehicles have already traveled around 2 million km in real customer operations on European roads – some with daily routes of up to 850 km and average consumption of 97 kWh per 100 km.
The electric trucks can be equipped with three to six modular NMC (Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt) batteries, manufactured at the MAN Nuremberg plant. These batteries offer a gross capacity of up to 534 kWh, allowing for seamless travel of up to 500 km without recharging. For even greater ranges, there is optionally a seventh battery available, enabling travel of up to 740 km without recharging on battery power.
MAN has received around 700 orders for its electric trucks so far. By the end of 2025, the first 1,000 vehicles are expected to be produced and delivered.
