Pöttinger: Half a century of technology in agriculture

The family-owned company from Upper Austria entered the production of soil cultivation equipment 50 years ago. Since then, Pöttinger has developed into a specialist in agricultural cultivation.

50 years ago, the family business from Upper Austria entered the production of soil cultivation equipment. Since then, Pöttinger has evolved into a specialist in agricultural machinery.

The acquisition of the Bavarian Plough Factory Landsberg in 1975 marked Pöttinger Landtechnik GmbH's entry into agricultural technology. Even 50 years later, the family business based in Grieskirchen, Upper Austria, is active in the areas of grassland, digital agricultural technology, and soil cultivation.

"This dynamic market offers a variety of opportunities, and we naturally take advantage of them. We work intensively and continuously to further develop our agricultural technologies - for the success of our customers and for the long-term success of the company," says Gregor Dietachmayr, spokesperson of the management board.

The purchase of the Bavarian Plough Factory, founded in 1891, brought 85 years of experience to Pöttinger in 1975, along with the expertise to develop agricultural machinery. In the following years, Pöttinger introduced numerous innovations, such as the Servo plough generation (1988), the particularly robust Lion rotary harrows (1991), or the Synkro mounted cultivator.

In 2001, with the acquisition of the seed drill factory Rabe in Bernburg, located in eastern Germany, Pöttinger entered the field of seed drilling and expanded its agricultural program to include mechanical, pneumatic, and mulch seeders.

Subsequent introductions included the Terradisc compact disc harrow (2003) or the new generation of the Terrasem mulch seeder (2004). In 2005, Pöttinger expanded its range with the 3-bar Synkro cultivator, suitable for both shallow and deep soil cultivation. In 2011, the revised series of mechanical seed drills Vitasem was launched with precise seed dosage and delivery.

In 2012, the Terrasem mulch seeder was expanded to include subsoil fertilization. The new generation of the pneumatic seed drill Aerosem was awarded "Machine of the Year" in 2013. In 2020, the Terria cultivator was introduced, followed by crop care machines such as rotary hoes, hoeing machines, and harrows in 2021.

In 2022, Pöttinger acquired MaterMacc, a company based in San Vito al Tagliamento, northern Italy, known for its expertise in precision planting technology, mechanical and pneumatic seed drills, and hoeing technology. The products, passion for agriculture, location, and above all, the dedicated workforce complement the family business Pöttinger perfectly.

Simultaneous to the merger, the Amico front tank joined the Pöttinger family in 2022. The Plano flat cultivator became part of the product portfolio for the first time in 2024, with a working width of six meters and a six-row structure, specifically designed for flat and full-surface cutting.

The anniversary year 2025 brings numerous activities, retrospectives, and of course, anniversary offers on agricultural equipment, as well as in crop care, grassland, and digital agricultural technology.
