A Ukrainian dairy farm was attacked for the second time by Russian drones - over 100 cows died.
Approximately ten drones hit the farm during the attack.
A dairy farm in the village of Mokra Rokytna in the Ukrainian region of Kharkiv has become the target of a Russian drone attack for the second time within a few months. During the attack on Monday morning, April 28, over 100 cows were killed and several buildings were destroyed.
According to Oleksandr Krasovsky, the director of the Agro Service SG farm, around ten attack drones hit the farm. All the buildings on the premises, including barns and machine halls, were damaged or completely destroyed. Some of the drones used were equipped with fragmentation charges, causing severe injuries to many animals' necks and stomachs. Some cows had to be euthanized.
The farm had already been the target of a similar attack on February 23, 2024, when six Shahed drones struck at night. At that time, the infrastructure was also heavily damaged but was subsequently rebuilt. The current attack has undone the reconstruction.
According to the Ukrainian Agrarian Council (UAC), of which Krasovsky is a member, at least 100 of the total 281 dairy cows were killed in the recent attack. UAC Chairman Andrii Dykun also reported that a calf barn, three cow barns, storage buildings, an administrative building, and numerous machines were damaged.
The damage to the livestock barns is significant following the drone attack.
The Russian army used a total of 166 drones in the attack on Kharkiv on the night of April 27-28, including decoy drones. These are said to have been fired from the Russian territories of Kursk, Millerovo, and Oryol. The attacks were mainly targeting the Sumy and Cherkasy regions.
The Ukrainian army managed to intercept some of the drones with the help of anti-aircraft defense, electronic warfare, and mobile units. Nevertheless, the attack leaves severe economic and emotional damage for the affected farmers.
Since the start of the Russian invasion, the Ukrainian agricultural sector has suffered direct damages of around $11.2 billion according to official figures. The total damages now exceed $80 billion.
